A Warm Welcome to our New Members
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
I would like to thank all of you who attended The Annual General
Meeting in June. We are pleased to announce the changes to the By-Laws
were passed by over the required 2/3 majority. We promise this issue
will not arise again. Approximately 75% of our membership present at the
AGM voted in favour of the changes to the Resolutions. This is a good
step forward for our membership.
We are pleased to welcome our newest board members: Larry Conn-
Guardian Capital, Charlotte Daughney – TD, Carrie Gratias- UBS, and Nick
Thadaney- ITG.
The new Board is already hard at work organizing the events that will
take place over the next few months.
In September, we will host a seminar on Corporate Governance. Our
Education Committee is putting together a great lineup of speakers that
you will not want to miss. More details will be available closer to the
date.
Plans are already under-way for the Fall Bash and the Christmas
Party.
Please check the dates below and mark them on your calendar.
We have also had some requests from firms wanting to advertise job
openings on the IETA Website or for the IETA to email job descriptions
to our members. Anyone who has any interest in this service should
contact me for more details. We would be happy to provide a service that
would help our members get a first opportunity at any openings that are
available.
Please keep the suggestions coming,
Michelle DaCosta, President, IETA (of Toronto)

A FINAL NOTE FROM JAMES BEATTIE
Peggy Bowie has served on the IETA board most recently as our
Past President. Peggy's focus and intensity are contagious to our
various causes. We thank her for the continuing support to the CSTA and
look forward to her marked contribution.
Jay Bakker has served on the IETA Board for the past two years
with his final year as the Treasurer. We thank Jay for accepting his
position which is truly a thankless one with lots of work. His
additional duties as "Bouncer at Large" at all IETA events is also
important and we hope we can count on him for future events.
James Duncan's contribution to the IETA has been significant
and we sincerely thank him. James' creative ideas, fundraising
activities, and his on-going efforts to both the STA and CSTA are truly
exemplary.
Nick Savona's two years on the IETA Board culminated in his
role as the Vice-President. Nick's tireless behind the scenes effort are
sincerely appreciated, without these many of our successful events would
have been less so.
The entire Board of the IETA must be congratulated for one of our
most successful years in our history. The concerted effort and
dedication to the various roles as a social organization, a lobby group
and an educational facilitator contributed to this success. Best of Luck
to the new Board!!!!

2002 IETA GOLF TOURNAMENT
The 2002 Golf Tournament was a huge success. Great weather, good
company and Angus Glen’s North Course made for a great test of golf. The
new course was in excellent shape and coupled with the great weather
made for ideal scoring conditions.
Our first place team of Paul Hardy, Campbell Craig, Dan McGregor and
David Jarvis lead the way with an impressive 12 under par. Lisa Petrelli
set the tone for the ladies with the longest drive measuring an
astounding 275 yards (up hill and into the wind) and Campbell Craig was
long off the tee for the men. The closest to the pin was won by Lucas
Atkinson.
Special thanks to our host Angus Glen and to Nick Savona for all his
hard work putting the event together.

WILFRED LAURIER UNIVERSITY STOCK MARKET
COMPETITIONS
Wilfrid Laurier University offers stock market competitions for
students at the secondary school, university undergraduate and graduate
levels. The national secondary school competition is comprised of six
regions from across Canada. Two competitions are offered during the year
in each of the fall and winter terms.
In June, the TSX Group (the principal sponsor of the competitions)
hosts a banquet for the national and regional winners of the secondary
school competition. This year, both national winning teams (for Fall and
Winter terms) were from Westmount Collegiate Institute in Thornhill, ON.
Bill Schoenhardt was their advising teacher. The Huntly McKay Award,
presented to the team that best embodies the spirit of the competition
and uses a wide variety of investment vehicles, was won by a team from
Chesley District High School in Chesley, ON. Heather Spencer was the
team’s advising teacher.
The Laurier competitions are an important tool in the learning
process. Teachers comment that the wide variety of investment strategies
that are available through the competition, separate Laurier’s
competitions from others that are available. The aim of the competitions
is to help students become informed investors, aware of the investment
tools available to them and aware of the need to set investment
objectives for lifelong learning.
Wilfrid Laurier University wishes to acknowledge and thank the
Institutional Equity Traders Association for its continued support of
the competitions. It is the vision of organizations such as IETA that
help to support and promote the education of young Canadians in the
field of investing.

MARKET ON CLOSE PROPOSAL
CSTA has provided an update to the MOC debate and changes to the
proposed new system. Many firms provided valuable feedback on this
model. The TSX has reviewed this feedback and has used it to revise its
model to better meet the needs of all market participants. As this is a
very significant market structure event in Canada's capital markets, it
is crucial to get as much feedback as possible.
Please feel free to contact any of the IETA Directors. If you prefer,
you may send your feedback directly to The TSX. Direct responses can be
made to any of your TSX Account Managers: Pete Gombocz at 416-947-4496,
Shawn Wilcox at 416-947-4724, Winville Larcher at 416-947-4607 or
Michelle Tran at 416-947-4583.
The TSX Proposal as well as the CSTA's comments can be accessed on
the CSTA Website.
