Change does not change tradition. It strengthens it. Change is a challenge and an opportunity; not a threat.
--Prince Phillip of England
Greetings and salutations to all! I hope this letter finds you and yours well.
Congratulations to the newly elected members of the Board. Tina Ambrosio, Craig Aucoin, Darryl Noronha and Amanda Van Veen join us with a host of new ideas for the upcoming year. We are looking forward to providing another exceptional year in fulfilling our mandate. http://www.ietatoronto.org/Mission.shtml
The IETA is also responsible for organizing several charitable and philanthropic events throughout the year. I look forward to your enthusiasm and support on each of these important dates.
Thank you to Board members completing their terms: Chris Rigby, Gary Knight, Blair Norris and Nick Thadaney. The result of your contribution is shown by the strength of the IETA today. Currently, with over 600 members, Toronto is the third largest affiliate of the STA. A special thanks to Dan Dowling for his leadership over the past year, and his advice to the current Board in serving as Past President.
One of our goals is to accurately reflect the interests of all members and their firms. Currently, Dan Dowling is the only “sell side” representative serving on the Board. Thus, this year we will be requesting your feedback on potential changes to our electoral process. It is important to ensure that all interested members are encouraged to run for election.
As always, we are anxious and appreciative of our members' feedback. Please feel free to forward your opinion (good or bad), to myself or any other Board member.
Best regards
James Bolen, President, IETA (of Toronto)

The last year has just flown by. Equity markets remain very challenging. Change remains a constant in our business. On behalf of the Board, I wanted to thank the members for their support of our events through the past year.
Looking back, the 11th annual CSTA conference in Kananaskis in July was a great success. The Fall Bash was followed by an interesting meeting with Catherine Kinney, President of the NYSE in November. The IETA X-mas party was entertaining as always. We were able to make a donation to Nazareth house, thanks to the members' generosity. We also made contributions to the Red Cross and UNICEF on behalf of Tsunami victims. The Bowling night in February, was followed by the Vendor Fair. The Spring Fling, in April, at Century Room was a great night. In May, we hosted an evening with Regulation Services, at the National Club. It was very informative meeting with Tom Atkinson and Maureen Jensen. Also throughout the year, we were able to donate our time serving breakfast to the homeless at Osgoode Law Hall. Thanks to all who volunteered through the year. It was great to give back to the community.
Much of the success this year had to do with the strong IETA Board that we had in place this year. We had a very team-oriented group which worked hard to organize events for the members during the year. I wanted to thank the outgoing members for their time and effort over the past few years. Specifically, Chris Rigby (Vice-President), Gary Knight (Treasurer), Blair Norris (Director), and Nick Thadaney (Past-President). Members staying on for a second year include Brent Mahoney, Chris Soanes, Geoff Keith, and James Bolen. I would like to wish the new Board much success in 2005-2006.
Cheers,
Dan Dowling, Past-President, IETA (of Toronto)

On behalf of the CSTA Board of Directors, I would like to thank those of you who attended the 12th Annual Canadian Security Traders Conference in Collingwood this past August. It was without a doubt one of our largest and most successful conferences to date. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the speakers, sponsors, volunteers and affiliate members who made the conference such an achievement.
On behalf of the CSTA membership, I would like to acknowledge the fine work of the outgoing 2005 Board of Directors. In addition to a very successful and educational annual conference, they did a superb job of representing traders on both the buy and sell side, furthering our collective goals. We would especially like to thank Diane Peto, our past Chair, Michelle DaCosta, who will be staying on the Board of Governors, and Peggy Bowie. Peggy’s efforts as our Chair during this past year have been unsurpassed. We thank Peggy for her tenacity, passion and dedication to our organization. We look forward to Peggy serving out her final term as a Governor for the Canadian STA.
I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce the new Board of Directors; Nick Savona (Vice-Chair), Diane Gabay (Secretary), Cindy Lewis (Treasurer) and Peggy Bowie (Past-Chair). I have no doubt that they - along with the Board of Governors; Carol Banahan, Janice Cameron, Keith Leonard, Genevieve Coutu, Rosanna Bruni, Marc Foreman, Danny Paulsen and Michelle DaCosta - will do a great job this coming year.
One name missing from our list of Governors is Sandra Macdonald. Sandra has taken a well deserved retirement from the job as President. We cannot begin to express our gratitude and appreciation for all of the work that Sandra has done for the Association over the years. And it is in the honour of the determination and drive that were Sandra’s trademark that will continue our goal to educate, communicate and cooperate.

The IETA AGM was held June 2 at the Park Hyatt Hotel. On a beautiful evening in Yorkville, 400 strong showed up to vote in the new board and party the night away.
The outstanding service, the beautiful Queens Park Ballroom and the centre ice location make this facility a tough one to match. Many thanks to Vera Vincic from the Hyatt and Janice Cooper for helping to make the night a success.
Thanks once again to Diane Gabay and her team for coordinating the counting of the votes. Congratulations goes out to the 4 new members to the Board of Directors : Amanda VanVeen, Craig Aucoin, Tina Ambrosio, and Darryl Noronha……the torch has been passed!!

The IETA golf tournament was held the morning of June 3 at Angus Glen North Course. Waking up to beautiful blue skies along with a wonderful breakfast hosted by the TSX made the early morning start a little easier!
Early odds had team Anonymous as the favorites, but in the end the team of Thadaney/Norris/Norris/Harris posted a 62 for the top prize of 4 rescue clubs (thanks George Stratis).
Thanks to everyone who helped contribute to the prize table along with the $2400 donation to the Bay Street Children’s Foundation.

On April 28th, the IETA held the second annual Spring Fling. I’m still not sure what was the biggest motivation for the huge turnout. The free drinks, the tough markets in April, the great venue of Century Room, the sushi from Blowfish, the mini-burgers from Lily, or the few locals that blessed our event. Regardless of the motivations, the strong turnout led to a great evening for all.
A special thanks to Century Room, Blowfish, and Lily for organizing a great evening.
